I have finally figured it out laughter truly is contagious. If you see two people laughing at a joke you didn’t hear, chances are you will smile anyway — even if you don’t realize it.
According to a new study, laughter truly is contagious: the brain responds to the sound of laughter and preps the muscles in the face to join in the mirth.
“It seems that it’s absolutely true that ‘laugh and the whole world laughs with you,’” said Sophie Scott, a neuroscientist at the University College London. “We’ve known for some time that when we are talking to someone, we often mirror their behavior, copying the words they use and mimicking their gestures. Now we’ve shown that the same appears to apply to laughter, too — at least at the level of the brain.”
The positive approach
Scott and her fellow researchers played a series of sounds to volunteers and measured the responses in their brain with an fMRI scanner. Some sounds, like laughter or a triumphant shout, were positive, while others, like screaming or retching, were negative.
All of the sounds triggered responses in the premotor cortical region of the brain, which prepares the muscles in the face to move in a way that corresponds to the sound.
The response was much higher for positive sounds, suggesting they are more contagious than negative sounds — which could explain our involuntary smiles when we see people laughing.
The team also tested the movement of facial muscles when the sounds were played and found that people tended to smile when they heard laughter, but didn’t make a gagging face when they heard retching sounds, said Scott. She attributes this response to the desire to avoid negative emotions and sounds.
Older than language?
The contagiousness of positive emotions could be an important social factor, according to Scott. Some scientists think human ancestors may have laughed in groups before they could speak and that laughter may have been a precursor to language.
“We usually encounter positive emotions, such as laughter or cheering, in group situations, whether watching a comedy program with family or a football game with friends,” Scott said. “This response in the brain, automatically priming us to smile or laugh, provides a way or mirroring the behavior of others, something which helps us interact socially. It could play an important role in building strong bonds between individuals in a group.”

In this world we are so scared of the differences. First it was the people with the darker skin tone. Why did we think they were slave materials cause they acted like animals and looked like them too. The reason why bullies have so much power is because they point out the difference you have. I think differences are what make us so powerful.I know if we were all the same life wouldnt matter because i wouldnt be special. I would be just another person. Which is why i believe in differences and how they work to make our world a better place. like my brother reading this you should believe in yourself dont try to become someone your not try to become someone who you would love to be.

i have finally played 2k11 awesome game i was surprised at how easy it is to use it now. The dunks are new iso motion more precise and the glitches are practically fixed.
The moment the game starts off, you’ll notice the Chicago Bulls theme that was always played when the starting lineup was introduced playing, you see a figure standing, its Michael and as he looks over his shoulder and says “Are you ready?”, as he makes his way onto the court. The game throws you into the Chicago Bulls Vs Los Angeles Lakers finals of 1991, you have an option to just quit the game and head over to the main menu, but I liked the way 2k chose to introduce Jordan to new young 2K basketball fans.
You’ll notice after playing game after game playing with Michael Jordan, is that 2k has devoted a lot of time in bringing, the most authentic, interpretation of Michael Jordan himself, on the court and in a game. The way he slouches, almost bent down when someone else is on the free-throw line, the moves he’s made over the years when he attacks the basket are at you’ll disposal, you feel the swagger he had on the court with every jumper, dribble, dunk and fade-away shot.
My Player mode: It’s like the road to the show mode in MLB: show game. Sometimes after a game, your player answers a question in post-game press conference, where your answer determines how teammates, fans and the league reacts. Fans and teammates may like or dislike your answer, it sort of depends on the question itself, it’s pretty neat. Word of caution, your stats take a long time to level up, so be prepared to grind. If you do good enough, you might win an endorsement from Jordan himself.
The Association: which is basically 2K11′s franchise mode, hasn’t been upgraded too much, though the overall toughness of teams seems slightly harder. Teams/players A.I seem to be a bit smarter, as teams will play to their strengths, find and set up teammates for the open jumpers, dunks an alley-oops.
The shooting and Passing seem to be my only problems with the game, as they may irritate you in some cases, but in no means are they gamebreakers. See, the shooting is time-based, which may take some time to get use to, as you have to release the ball perfectly in order to get the shot. Though, you have two options to shoot, the x button or right analog stick, it’s still difficult. You also have an option to switch to a “percent” style shooting, rather then timed based, which is much easier.
Passes get intercepted or tipped by the A.I way too often, they constantly reach or jump the passing line, leading to a bunch of steals. I know you can’t lob passes half court and not expect it to get stolen, but even a post pass becomes difficult sometimes. If you want to brush up on the controls manuals, you have to go online to download a 20-page PDF file, which is a comprehensive instruction on how to ball and break ankles.
Overall, NBA 2K11 is the best game to date, with its smooth game play, enhanced graphics, lag-free multiplayer and best of all, it has the greatest player in NBA history as a playable character.
i got bored so i got addicted to this game. Well i wouldn't say addicted but i had the erg to beat it. Like Michael Jackson said. Play the song while you beat the game. =)
